The eyes may be the window to your soul, but if not taken care of, what they will show instead is your age or how late you stayed up last night!
The skin around the eyes is three times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. This means it has less sebaceous glands, less collagen and elastin, making it extremely vulnerable to environmental factors as it lacks natural protection.
Then to think we blink approximately 10,000 times a day, squint constantly at bright lights or blurry things, it is no wonder our eyes are the first to show signs of ageing and fatigue.
Yet, the fallacy that our face moisturiser should be adequate to care for the eye contour is sadly not true. Our poor overworked and fragile eye contours need products formulated specifically to deal with their unique skin structure.
With options a plenty, here are the main types of eye products and our favourites;
Eye make up such as eyeliners, eyeshadows and mascara possess ingredients that require more than what a face cleanser can sometimes provide. Failure to properly cleanse the eye contour and lashes promote damage to the lashes as well as accelerate signs of ageing with sagging eyelids and crow’s feet.
Both Payot and Mary Cohr offer a bi-phase eye cleanser. The bi-phase combines water and oil agents for the maximum cleanse enabling them to get rid of the most stubborn eye make up while also soothing and nourishing the skin.
Similar to a face serum, the eye serum is ideal for those seeking an intensive treatment for major impact and results. The light texture of a serum enables concentrated ingredients to penetrate deep into the skin. The serum is applied under the eye moisturiser.
Mary Cohr’s Eye Contour Acti Serum strengthens the structure of the skin around the eyes, smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles.
Eye Cream (or Moisturiser)
Eye creams are formulated to be lighter than your face moisturisers to suit the nature of the skin around your eyes. They possess specific ingredients that help regenerate, nourish but also drain and lift the eye contour.
Mary Cohr has just released the Double Youth Eye Contour, the ultimate in eye care where results of use after one month showed 33.1% decrease in wrinkle depth and 66.1% improvement in elasticity.
Eye masks are a real treat not only as you get a chance to relax for a few minutes while they do their thing but the results are fabulous. Eye masks are saturated with ingredients that plump, hydrate and energise the eye contour, leaving the eyes fresh and bright. Perfect before a special occasion or when need to mask tired and fatigued eyes.
Both Payot and Mary Cohr offer great eye masks that are a must in every bathroom and travel bag.
Specific Eye Care
Products that target key concerns such as puffiness or dark circles are also available. These products again are formulated to specifically treat those concerns.
